The Burnt Creek Fire, first reported on July 17, 2026, is burning about 23 miles north of Enterprise. The fire was caused by lightning and has grown to 4,169 acres with 80 percent containment.
Crews continue to patrol and monitor the fire perimeter while holding a full suppression strategy to strengthen containment lines and prevent further spread toward private lands.
Evacuations: All evacuation orders have been lifted. The Burnt Creek Fire Area Closure remains in effect on National Forest Service lands. Roads and lands within the closure perimeter, including the Chico Trail and Chico Trailhead, remain closed to public access.
Air quality: Communities to the east and south, including Elgin and La Grande, can expect mostly unhealthy air. Enterprise anticipates conditions that are unhealthy for sensitive groups.
